What is Kayachikitsa? 

Kayachikisha is one of eight branches of Ayurveda (Ashtanga Ayurveda) that specialize in traditional medicine. It is the first branch of Ashtanga Ayurveda to focus on the diagnosis and treatment of various health problems. 

Kaya also refers to the fire of digestion or to Agni. Ayurveda believes that inequalities caused by our digestive system are the cause of many diseases. Therefore, chikitsa also involves preparing a digestive fire or Agni to restore good health.

Kayachikisa (or internal medicine), where Kaya means 'body' and chikitsa means 'healing'. Treatment includes correcting inequalities caused by tridosa (Vata, Pitta and Kapha). The remedy includes a range of internal and external medications, detoxification, etc., as well as specialized treatments to treat the disease. 

The Kayachikits approach involves complete physical and mental management. Therapy helps to create harmony between mind, body and soul. Kayachikisa is used to deal with problems related to chronic illness and general illness.

  • Skin Diseases (Psoriasis, Atopic dermatitis, Eczema, Urticaria etc.)

  • Neurovascular disorders
  • Arthritis (Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Intestinal Disorders)
  • Respiratory diseases (Kasa, Swasa)
  • Kaamale (jaundice)
  • Irritable Bowel syndrome
