Charaka Samhita is believed to have originated in about 400-200 BCE. Sounds like one of the oldest and most important official documents in Ayurveda. It is not known who this person is or, if so, this represents the function of the "school of thought." 

It could have been from a group of scholars or followers of a person known as Charaka or the original formation from one person named Charaka. 

This work is sometimes regarded as a repetition of the old and large work, Agnivesha Samhita (46,000 verses), who has since died. Dridhabala, who lived about 400 AD, is believed to have filled many verses of missing text (up to 20%) in Chikitsasthana and elsewhere, which disappeared over time.

Charaka language is Sanskrit and its style is poetry, with meters and music. Poems were known as memorabilia. For example, Charaka contains more than 8,400 metric verses, often committed to memory, by modern Ayurvedic medical students.

Charaka Saṃhita is considered as one of the best compendia in the literature of Ayurveda and hence it has been given the status of Bṛhattrayī.

According to CCIM Syllabus Charaka Saṃhitā has been divided into 2 parts :

Pūrvārtha consist : (for 2nd year of BAMS) 

whereas Uttarārtha consists the remaining sections such as : (for 3rd year of BAMS)
