Kaumarbhritya is one of the Ashtang Ayurveda branches responsible for the care of infants, children; diseases and their management. Although Kashyapa Samhita is considered the main text of Kaumarbhritya it is not completely available.

 Therefore, we must pass through Brihat Trayi for complete information. Sushruta Samhita, part of Brihattrayi, built by Acharya Sushruta details Ashtanga Ayurveda and places Kaumarbhritya in 5th place. He mentioned it as a branch that describes methods of child rearing, maternal breast cleansing, diagnostic tests and treatment. 

He gave a description of Kaumarbhritya in Sharirasthana, 12 chapters of Uttartantra (from chapters 27 to 38) and some related topics are scattered in another Sthana of Samhita. He mentioned all the important concepts of Kaumarbhritya such as Navjata Paricharya (neonatal care), Stanyaguna, Stanyapanavidhi (breastfeeding), t / t of Stanya Nasha, Shishu Poshana and Rakshana.
